Malala: Activist for Girls' Education - KitaabWorld

Malala: Activist for Girls' Education

$ 17.99

Malala Yousafzai stood up to the Taliban and fought for the right for all girls to receive an education. When she was just fifteen-years old, the Taliban attempted to kill Malala, but even this did not stop her activism. At age eighteen Malala became the youngest person to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work to ensure the education of all children around the world.

Malala’s courage and conviction will inspire young readers in this beautifully illustrated biography.

Best Malala Biography I've read

Our family really enjoyed this book. We're pretty familiar with Malala's story as one of my children had written a report about Malala for school and we enjoyed researching together as a family because we were all quite interested in her history and continued work & activism. This particular biography stands out though. I don't know if it's the impact of the artwork or how the story was told but this biography had a greater impact on us than others we've read. The illustrations are brilliant, so detailed, and the colors are really reflective of what's going on in the story on each page. The content of the story is well written, honest, and very detailed - leading to a lot of discussion about world events, religion, politics, and power. I liked how there was a bit more focus on Malala's family in this biography, in particular, I enjoyed learning more about her father and his role in shaping her character and giving her strength/conviction. I definitely felt that this particular biography was a heavy read in comparison with other Malala bios we've read. I would suggest for age 8 or older, it might be too much info for the younger set. In addition to great story telling and imagery, the last few pages of the book offer objective information about Pakistan, Islam, other activists who have been an inspiration to Malala, a timeline of events, a map of Pakistan, quotes, and a small collection photographs. I think that this would be an eye opening read for a group of 4th and 5th graders in particular.
