The Ramayana ("Rama's Journey") is one of the two great epics of Hindu literature and is the basis of Diwali, the Festival of Lights. This simplified version—condensed from the seven books and 500 cantos of the original—describes Prince Rama's journey to rescue Princess Sita, who has been kidnapped by the Demon King and locked in an iron tower. With the help of Hanuman, the monkey general, and Jambuvan, King of the Bears, Rama travels to the Demon Kingdom to save Sita.
