A nice story - could use a couple of improvements especially around gender stereotypes

My 3-year-old enjoys this book a lot. We like the story overall - it's got the right balance of simplicity with a couple of concepts that stretch our son's thinking. However, some of the language could have used improvement. I also did not appreciate the portrayal of women in the story. E.g., the boy's mother crying helplessly, the potter's wife crying (with no identity of her own- just referred to as the potter's wife), the washerman who is yelling at his wife for breaking the pot. I adapted the story to reduce some of these stereotypes against women (e.g., I refer to the potter's wife as 'a woman selling pots, or a potter herself; and I say that the washerman is upset because the pot broke, not that he is yelling at his wife for breaking the pot).
